Training and further education

For optimum planning and operation of thermal networks

Basic course

The basic course provides a broad overview of the topic and covers the basic procedure for planning and operating thermal networks on the basis of the “Handbook on Planning of District Heating Networks”.

Advanced course 1 – Network dimensioning

Advance course 1 goes into greater depth on the dimensioning and assessment of thermal networks. Participants will learn more about the design of the network, which is important in planning, and gain an overview of the possibilities of special tools in relation to planning, operation and assessment.
The Excel tool THENA from Verenum and the thermo-hydraulic network calculation software STANET are introduced, which can be used to plan and assess thermal networks.

Advanced course 2 – Operational optimization

Advanced course 2 deals with the operation and optimization of existing thermal networks. Participants will be introduced to a method for efficiently analyzing and assessing customer systems and optimizing them operationally and economically, and will apply this method in their own exercises. The application will be deepened using practical examples. The exchange of experiences among the participants is also an essential part of this advanced course.

Advanced course 3 – Transfer stations

Advanced course 3 deals with the procedure for planning and designing transfer stations based on the guidelines for planning district heating transfer stations. Participants will gain a deeper understanding of the importance of the technical requirements of customers secondary systems when connecting to a thermal network and gain a broad insight into practice.
